Our MD is ‘on the spot’ with the Yorkshire Post

Our managing director is a proud Yorkshireman, and is delighted to have shared his thoughts for the Yorkshire Post’s ‘On the spot’ feature.

An avid petrolhead, Mike discusses his love of motorsports and how if he wasn’t MD at PMG, he would probably be working with top of the range cars.

In this ‘get to know me’ feature, Mike also shares details of his first job, the worst mistake he’s ever made (oops!) and what he would do if he won the lottery.

The feature ends with the questions ‘What would your epitaph be?’ to which Mike answered ‘I have nothing further to say’

Make sure to grab a copy of the Yorkshire Post today (May 1st) to see Mike’s full ‘On the spot’ feature.

Alternatively, read the full Q&A, below:

What was your first job?

I went straight from sixth form to being an apprentice ‘paste-up artist’ for Hardy Business Forms back in the 80s, so I’ve always worked in the print industry.

If you weren’t in your present position, what would you be doing?

I’m a bit of a petrol-head, I have a thing about nice cars and I’m quite obsessive about cleaning them… so maybe I’d work for a high-end car valet service.

What is the worst mistake you’ve ever made?

The worst mistake I’ve ever made would have to be sending an email to a major client. We’ve all done it, surely?

What’s your ideal day away from the office?

A day in the Lake District enjoying a lazy lunch and a bottle of wine. I spend a lot of my spare time with family and friends in the lakes, I find it a very calming place to be.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Laurence Dallaglio, he’s one of my rugby heroes that I’ve not had the opportunity to meet yet. I’m sure he has some great tales to tell.

What was your best subject at school?

It was all about art and sport for me at school, I found studying academic subjects a necessary evil!

What are your hobbies?

I’m a huge fan of motorsports and rugby, if I’m not at Silverstone or Le Mans, you’ll find me at Twickenham!

What would you do if you won the lottery?

I’d invest in cars, pay off the mortgage and use what’s left to give back to society. Giving back becomes more important the older I get, I support charities such as Simon on the Streets, Wakefield Hospice and I am passionate about contributing to children’s charities such as the Children’s Society, who do a fantastic job at supporting children through hard times.

What is your top time saving tip?

Don’t double handle things, always deal with it first before it gets out of hand. Sticking to a structure and routine really helps with time saving too, although I can’t say I always practice what I preach!

What is your favourite time of day?

Early morning, I like to get up and seize the day.

What is your favourite item of clothing?

My Senna t-shirt, Ayrton Senna is one of my heroes.

What’s the best thing about being in Yorkshire?

The people really are the friendliest, and the beer is great too! Maybe the two are connected…?

What would your epitaph be?

I have nothing further to say!
